The Second Trimester
Dear Baby C,
It’s almost unbelievable when I take a step back to think about how much has changed over the past 3 months. If I had to sum it up, I’d say we’ve gotten stronger. All of us.
Since about 21 weeks you’ve been punching and kicking up a storm in there! It also feels like you’re crawling around from time to time. Sometimes it’s uncomfortable - especially when you decide to party in the middle of the night - but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I feel so close to you and I know I won’t always be that lucky as you grow older. Your dad felt his first kick pretty early on, and I’ll never forget the look in his eyes when he did. Now, you’ll sometimes even respond to the sound of his voice when he talks to you. I wonder if you can tell the difference between his hands and mine. When you hear us, I hope you can tell how much we love you already.
You’ve been pretty easy on me so far. This trimester with you brought more energy and not too many weird cravings. I’ve been loving juice, smoothies, avocado toast, and ice cream. You love orange juice and do a happy dance every time I drink it. I have a feeling you’re going to be a big boy, so all of the back pain I’m experiencing now should prepare me for lifting you up to see everything you want to see when you get here. People ask all the time if I’m ok or if I need help lifting things, but to be honest I don’t know if I’ve ever felt stronger. You’ve forced me to be more in tune with my body than ever and I’ve been working more on building muscle to support us and mobility so I can chase you around for years to come.
We talk about you all the time. We wonder what you’ll look like, what you’ll be interested in, and if you’ll like the city. We hope we’re making the right decisions for you but I don’t think we’ll ever know for sure. The world you’re coming into can be scary at times and I wonder how I’ll keep you safe from it all. I know your dad and I will make a great team. I hope you trust us.
We’re going to get started on setting up your room! I can’t wait for you to see it. I can’t wait to see you. You’ll have to give your dad lots of kicks when you get here so he can really get to know you like I am. I already know you two are going to be the best of friends.
Sweet dreams, little man. See you soon.
Love,
Mama
